Post 4 – Day 4 – October 9, 2009
My third pack of 2009-10 O-Pee-Chee hockey contained the following six cards:
#14 Jordan Staal Penguins
#405 Marco Sturm Bruins
#385 David Krejci Bruins
#CB-JH Jayna Hefford Team Canada
#542 Byron Bitz Bruins
#182 Paul Martin Devils
Our ScoreboardEh store with CheckOutMyCards.com features 23 cards of these players, 15 for Staal alone and a new high for the blog.
For master set collectors there are two cards of interest. The Jayna Hefford Team Canada card is the first Canada’s Best insert thus far and the Byron Bitz Rookie Card is sure to be popular with Bruins collectors.
After hitting an early home run for the Cardinals, left fielder Matt Holliday was being fitted with a heroes cape, only to be sent back to the wardrobe where the cape was promptly replaced with a set of goat horns. The 29 year old native of Stillwater, Oklahoma was handcuffed by a game ending flyball that hit him ……well …..in the midsection.
Legendary broadcaster Vin Scully called the play from the Dodgers booth and immediately wondered if a cup was part of Holliday’s uniform. The Dodgers used the gaffe to score two in the bottom of the ninth for a 3-2 win, and a 2-0 series lead as the teams head back to St. Louis for game three.
It’s raining in Southern Ontario and my arm says it may stay that way.
Tomorrow: Pack 4 from 2009-10 O-Pee-Chee hockey.

Post 3 – Day 3 – October 8, 2009
My second pack of 2009-10 O-Pee-Chee hockey contained the following six cards:
#295 Travis Zajac Devils
#494 Nick Foligno Senators
#576 Butch Bouchard Canadiens
#SL14 Miikka Kiprusoff Flames
#111 Evgeni Nabokov Sharks
#197 Marc-Antoine Pouliot Oilers
Our ScoreboardEh store with CheckOutMyCards.com features 21 cards of these players, an increase of 8 over yesterdays totals. Just the goalies alone account for 12 cards. The Sharks have struggled after recording just one win in three starts while the Flames are a perfect 3 and 0 and leading their division. If either team is to have a longer playoff run this year, both Kiprusoff and Nabokov will have to be among the best players on the ice.
The card of note in this pack is the SL14 Miikka Kiprusoff. The Stats Leader subset features 17 cards in total.
It is sunny and cool as we Canadians turn our attention to the Thanksgiving weekend. The combination of home cooking and the drive to the World Series means homemade pie during the 7th inning stretch and a turkey leg during the late night highlights. I’m up for that!
Tomorrow: Pack 3 from 2009-10 O-Pee-Chee hockey and our first look at some of the player cards from teams in the baseball playoffs.

Post 2 – Day 2 – October 7, 2009
My first pack of 2009-10 O-Pee-Chee hockey contained the following six cards:
#430 – Kirk Maltby Red Wings
#73 – Paul Ranger Lightning
#525 – Kris Chucko Flames RC
#460 - Kyle Wellwood Canucks Retro
#222 – David Backes Blues
#426 – Robyn Regehr Flames
Our ScoreboardEh store with CheckOutMyCards.com features 13 cards of these players. The player to watch in this group is Kris Chucko. The Burnaby, BC native opens his season tonight with the Abbotsford Heat of the AHL. Chucko’s rookie card will be available in the store shortly and it’s arrival will be mentioned in a future blog.
The other card of note in the pack is the Wellwood #460. A quick call to Fresher Sportscards here in London revealed that while the cards have been marketed as retro, they are not from a specific past year. The cards are bright, glossy and thicker than the common version and for most collectors, that’s enough.
As of this writing, it is a rainy, windy day in southern Ontario. As always the coffee is both strong and black and a pipe and a book will occupy my time until hockey kicks off week two and baseball begins its playoffs tonight. If you like both sports, as I do, this is a great time to be a fan.
My thanks to Brendan McCarthy of The Telegram in St. Johns and Sean Kelso, Manager of Media Relations for the Calgary Flames for their assistance with todays post.

Post 1 – Day 1 – October 6, 2009
The internet thrives on brevity so I’ll get to the point.
ScoreboardEh is designed to highlight the day to day stars of the game and their cards. Each morning I’ll reveal the contents of one pack of cards. I’ll write about the cards I find and the players they feature. I’ll also write about the other cards of the same players that I have available in my ScoreboardEh store at CheckOutMyCards.com.
Each post will feature a card that can be purchased by clicking the picture. From there, you can make an offer on the card or buy it for the asking price. You don’t have to join and all you need is a Paypal account credit card.
As of this writing, it is a sunny fallish day in London, Ontario. It was here in London that the O-Pee-Chee brand was created and it seems fitting that I begin my blog featuring the 2009-10 version of O-Pee-Chee Hockey. If you have questions or comments post a reply.
Welcome and enjoy,
Barry
